Brockton Man Sentenced for Selling Cocaine

BOSTON – Tyrone Smith, a 32-year-old Brockton man, has been sentenced to 28 months in prison and three years of supervised release for distributing crack cocaine.

Smith pleaded guilty to distributing cocaine base, also known as crack cocaine, in May 2019. He was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Dennis Saylor in federal court in Boston.

Smith’s case was part of Operation Landshark, a federal investigation aimed at targeting impact players and repeat offenders in Brockton and Boston. These individuals have prior convictions for acts of violence, firearm offenses, and/or drug trafficking.

The Operation Landshark targets are allegedly among the top 30 criminal offenders responsible for violent acts and firearms in Brockton. This investigation was conducted by the FBI’s North Shore Gang Task Force and Southeastern Massachusetts Gang Task Force, with valuable assistance from various law enforcement agencies.

United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling announced the sentence, along with other officials from the FBI, Massachusetts State Police, and local police departments. The investigation was a collaborative effort between multiple agencies, including the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the U.S. Secret Service.

Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is an evidence-based program aimed at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, stakeholders work together to identify and address the most pressing violent crime problems in the community. By focusing enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partnering with prevention and reentry programs, PSN aims to achieve lasting reductions in crime.

Smith’s sentence is a result of this collaborative effort and the ongoing commitment to reducing violent crime in Brockton and beyond.

Sentencing in this case is a significant step towards addressing the root causes of crime and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
