Tyson Employee Faces 28 Months for Wire Fraud

Fayetteville, AR – A former Tyson Foods employee has been sentenced to 28 months in federal prison for stealing over $550,000 from the company.

Brenda Blair, 48, of Gentry, Arkansas, was ordered to pay $551,343.52 in restitution for her role in the wire fraud scheme. The Honorable Timothy L. Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing in the United States District Court in Fayetteville.

According to the plea agreement, Blair managed contributions into and handled administrative duties related to the Tyson Foods Inc. Pre-65 Retiree Health Insurance Benefit Plan for over 25 years. However, between June 2005 and September 2014, she devised and implemented a scheme to defraud money from Tyson Inc. by generating fraudulent payments in the name of actual participants in the Pre-65 Retiree Health Insurance Benefits Plan and directing these payments to her own bank accounts.

The scheme resulted in defrauding Tyson Inc. of over $550,000. The investigation into Blair’s activities was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Internal Revenue Service (IRS) – Criminal Investigation Division, and the Department of Labor.

Assistant United States Attorney Kimberly N. Davis prosecuted the case for the United States. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of corporate accountability and the need for vigilant oversight of company finances.

Blair’s sentencing is a significant blow to those who would seek to exploit their positions of trust for personal gain. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
