Craig Austin Lang, Double Homicide Armed Robbery, Florida 2024

Fort Myers, Florida – United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe has announced a stunning guilty verdict against Craig Austin Lang (35, Kyiv, Ukraine). Lang has been found responsible for conspiracy to commit robbery and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, among other serious charges. The defendant faces life in federal prison following the April 10, 2018, double homicide and armed robbery of Florida couple S.L., Jr. and D.L.

According to trial testimony, the victims traveled from Brooksville to Estero, Florida, to complete a firearms purchase through Armslist. Lang and his co-defendant Alex Zwiefelhofer, who was previously sentenced to consecutive life sentences, were linked to the murder of the couple during an attempt to steal $3,000.

Lang, a former fighter in Ukraine, had plotted to fight against the Venezuelan government. The robbery of S.L., Jr. and D.L. was part of his scheme to secure funds for travel to Venezuela.

This harrowing case has been a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorneys Jesus M. Casas and Benjamin S. Winter have led the prosecution.

Lang’s sentencing hearing is set for March 27, 2026, marking the culmination of a years-long investigation into one of Florida’s most violent crimes.

Zwiefelhofer has already been sentenced, but Lang now stands as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by foreign fighters and organized crime syndicates operating across international borders.
