MEMPHIS, TN — A brutal retaliatory gang shooting has led to the indictment of six alleged members of the Unknown Vice Lords (UVL) Ghost Mob. The suspects, who are accused of attempted murder in aid of racketeering and firearm charges, are facing life-altering sentences if convicted.
Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division spoke out against the gang violence that terrorizes communities. ‘These individuals showed a blatant disregard for public safety,’ Galeotti said. ‘Gang violence inflicts profound harm on our communities, fostering fear and destabilizing neighborhoods.’
Special Agent in Charge Jamey VanVliet of the ATF Nashville Field Division echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the dedication of law enforcement to combat violent crime. ‘The men and women of the ATF remain committed to combating violent crime and swiftly bringing these individuals to justice,’ VanVliet stated.
Court documents reveal that on September 6, 2020, rival gang members opened fire on UVL Ghost Mob members and their families, leaving four injured. In response, UVL leaders ordered a retaliatory attack. The following day, masked defendants entered the residence of the rival gang, armed with assault rifles. They fired approximately 40-50 bullets into the residence while the rival gang members were inside.
The indicted suspects are Antwon Brown (also known as Yayo), Cordera Douglas (also known as Chuckie Dee), Willie Merriweather, Tevin Richardson (also known as Santana), Ricky Rogers Jr. (also known as Double R, RR), and Laraveus Williams (also known as Ray Ray). Each faces a maximum sentence of 10 years for conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder in aid of racketeering, as well as at least 20 years for assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering. Discharging a firearm during a crime of violence carries an additional mandatory minimum of 10 years.
The ATF and Memphis Police Department conducted the investigation, while Trial Attorneys Lisa M. Thelwell and Dennis Robinson are prosecuting the case. This operation is part of the Violent Crime Initiative to tackle violent crimes in Memphis and surrounding areas.
