PRICE, UTAH – The grim halls of justice were once again filled with the sound of footsteps echoing off metal floors as Dominic Matthew Martinez, 28, and Jennifer Meradee Tryon, 43, faced a federal indictment for their alleged heist at Smith’s Food and Drug on November 26, 2013. According to the United States Attorney’s Office, a grand jury has charged the duo with the armed robbery of the establishment located at 1075 East Main Street.
The evidence against them is as stark as it is chilling. Surveillance footage from the scene captures their brazen actions, which led to their identification by the Price Police Department, the Utah Department of Public Safety, the ATF, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
For their crime, Martinez and Tryon face a litany of charges. The indictment alleges that they not only robbed the store but also used a firearm in the process. The gravity of their actions is underscored by Martinez’s additional charge of possession of a firearm and ammunition following a felony conviction.
Both are currently in state custody, with a federal arrest warrant now out for Tryon. Should they be convicted under the federal Hobbs Act, the penalties are severe: up to 20 years in prison for robbery, life sentence plus seven-year mandatory minimum for brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and a potential ten-year sentence for possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
The Price Police Department’s swift response was crucial in catching the culprits. With this latest development, the community is hopeful that justice will be served for the victims of this daring and violent act.
