A Richmond Man’s Descent into Violence: 6.5 Year Sentence for Gun Crime
Alexander O’Neal Jackson, a 36-year-old self-avowed member of the Bloods Gang, has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for the illegal possession of a firearm. This conviction comes as no surprise to those familiar with Jackson’s violent past, which includes two separate incidents of discharging a firearm in a public space.
On September 23, 2021, Jackson fired six shots into a loaded parking lot at the St. Luke’s Apartment Complex in Richmond, Virginia. Miraculously, no one was seriously injured, but the incident left a trail of destruction and fear in its wake. When arrested, Jackson was found in possession of a Taurus PT709, 9mm semiautomatic pistol.
An expert firearm and toolmark examiner conducted microscopic comparisons of test-fired cartridge cases fired from the pistol with the cartridge cases recovered from the apartment complex. The analysis confirmed that the cartridges were fired from Jackson’s pistol, leaving little doubt as to his guilt.
U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Aber, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Special Agent in Charge Charlie J. Patterson, and Henrico County Police Department Chief Colonel Eric D. English made the announcement after sentencing by Senior U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth Simon prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
As part of this strategy, PSN focuses enforcement efforts on the most violent offenders and partners with locally based prevention and reentry programs for lasting reductions in crime. The sentencing of Alexander O’Neal Jackson is a stark reminder of the importance of this work and the need to hold violent offenders accountable for their actions.
