A federal grand jury has indicted 35-year-old Jeffrey Lynn Johnson from South Salt Lake, Utah for allegedly operating a large-scale cocaine trafficking operation.
According to court documents, the investigation, led by the DEA, uncovered over 1.5 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of approximately $120,000 in various locations throughout Utah. The operation also seized over $50,000 in cash, multiple vehicles, and several firearms from Johnson’s possession.
Johnson’s arrest comes after a lengthy investigation, which involved cooperation from multiple agencies, including the DEA, FBI, and local law enforcement. Authorities claim that Johnson was the mastermind behind the operation, using various tactics to evade law enforcement and distribute the illicit substance.
The federal indictment charges Johnson with one count of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, one count of distribution of cocaine, and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. If convicted, Johnson faces up to 20 years in prison for each count, with a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years for the firearm charge.
Johnson’s trial is set to begin in the coming months, and he remains in federal custody at the Utah State Prison pending the outcome of his case.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of cocaine trafficking in Utah and the importance of continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies to combat this issue.
In a statement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah emphasized the gravity of the charges and the potential consequences for those involved in such operations.
