Michael Keith Rubino, Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, California 2024

Vacaville native Michael Keith Rubino, 37, has pleaded guilty to charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant. The grim revelation came as the defendant admitted to recording himself engaging in explicit acts with a 17-year-old girl during a six-week stay at his residence.

Despite Rubino’s assertions that no such conduct occurred, evidence suggests otherwise. The teenager was hospitalized after the incident, and police were notified. Law enforcement officers confronted Rubino with irrefutable proof of his actions.

This disturbing case has been meticulously investigated by the Vacaville Police Department, with substantial assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sam Stefanki is now handling the prosecution.

Rubino’s sentencing is set for November 11, 2025, before Chief U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley. The defendant faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years in federal prison, along with a $250,000 fine. His actual punishment will be decided by the court based on relevant guidelines.

Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation, has been instrumental in bringing this case forward. Launched in 2006, the project coordinates efforts across federal, state, and local agencies to apprehend predators like Rubino and protect innocent victims.
