Christopher Eric Alexander, Child Pornography Distribution, North Carolina 2018

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Christopher Eric Alexander, 42, of Valdese, North Carolina, will spend the next 7.5 years in federal prison after being sentenced today for receiving and distributing sickening child pornography. U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger handed down the 90-month sentence, along with a lifetime of supervised release, in a case that exposed a dark corner of online depravity.

The case, spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina, revealed Alexander’s deliberate actions between May 24, 2017, and April 15, 2018. Court documents detail how Alexander used a file-sharing website to actively receive child pornography, accumulating a horrifying collection of 34 videos and 419 images. Worse still, some of this material depicted prepubescent minors subjected to sadistic and masochistic abuse.

This wasn’t simply passive reception. Alexander wasn’t just downloading – he was actively participating in the spread of this vile content, distributing child pornography through the same file-sharing service. His actions weren’t a momentary lapse in judgment; they were a sustained, calculated effort to indulge in and proliferate the abuse of children. U.S. Attorney Andrew Murray made it clear this type of behavior will not be tolerated.

Alexander initially pleaded guilty on October 5, 2018, and has been in federal custody awaiting sentencing. He will now be transferred to a designated Federal Bureau of Prisons facility to begin serving his sentence. Unlike state systems, federal sentences offer no chance of parole. He will serve every single day of that 90-month term.

Judge Reidinger didn’t stop at imprisonment. Following his release, Alexander will be required to register as a sex offender, a permanent mark of his crimes and a necessary measure to protect potential future victims. Special Agent in Charge John Strong of the FBI’s Charlotte Division emphasized the agency’s unwavering commitment to eradicating this type of exploitation.

This case was brought under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice. The project aims to combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources. It’s a grim reminder of the ongoing fight against those who prey on the innocent. More information on Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
