Vallejo Meth Kingpin Sentenced to 16 Years for Gun-Toting Crime Spree
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In a harsh blow to California’s already strained streets, 58-year-old Vallejo man Clarence Courtney was sentenced to 16 years and three months in prison for distributing pure methamphetamine and possessing firearms as a felon.
According to court documents, Courtney sourced 100% pure methamphetamine on three occasions in late 2020 to co-defendant Michael Renay Williams, 62, of Vallejo, who then sold the methamphetamine to an undercover agent.
Law enforcement seized more than 3 pounds of methamphetamine, 200 rounds of ammunition, a Remington 12-gauge shotgun, and an AR-style sniper rifle with no serial number from Courtney’s residence.
Courtney’s prior felony convictions left him ineligible to possess firearms, but he ignored the law, putting the community at risk of further violence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Desmond prosecuted the case, which was the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Vallejo Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Homeland Security Investigations.
The case is part of Operation PEACE, an initiative launched in August 2020 in response to the increased number of homicides, nonfatal shootings, and other violent crimes in Vallejo.
Operation PEACE has been instrumental in bringing violent criminals to justice and dismantling the networks that fuel their illicit activities.
Co-defendant Williams pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine on March 30, 2023, and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 20, 2024.
The harsh sentence handed down to Courtney is a testament to the unwavering commitment of law enforcement agencies to keep California’s streets safe from those who would seek to harm it.
