Rapid City man Vance Allan Warthen was sentenced to 36 months in federal prison for possessing child pornography.
A court in South Dakota heard the case against Warthen, who was convicted of producing images of child pornography in August 2019.
The images were created with a minor female in Rapid City, and Warthen remained in possession of them after the fact.
Vance Allan Warthen, 31, was sentenced on March 8, 2021, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken.
Warthen will also face five years of supervised release and will be required to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
He will also be required to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
The investigation into Warthen’s actions was a collaborative effort between the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Rapid City Police Department, and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuted the case.
