South Dakota Man Charged with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

A federal grand jury has indicted Jeffrey Alan Mosal, a 44-year-old man from Sulfur Springs, Arkansas, for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

According to Acting United States Attorney Dennis Holmes, Mosal had previously been convicted of a sex crime and required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. However, he failed to do so between January 30, 2020, and April 6, 2021.

Mosally appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on June 23, 2021, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. He is currently being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 10 years in federal prison and/or a $250,000 fine, five years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

The Indictment alleges that Mosal’s failure to register as a sex offender was a deliberate act that put the community at risk. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Mosal’s whereabouts to come forward.

The investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuting the case. A trial date has not been set, but Mosal is expected to face justice for his alleged crimes.

As the community continues to grapple with the consequences of sex crimes, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of registering as a sex offender and complying with federal regulations.
