Adam Cushman, Methamphetamine Distribution, Georgia 2023

SAVANNAH, GA – The ‘Vanilla Gorilla’ tag may have been a pseudonym for Adam Cushman, but it was the reality of his criminal activities that earned him 108 months behind bars. Cushman, a 39-year-old from Savannah, was sentenced to nearly ten years in prison for his role in the distribution of methamphetamine, as part of the Ghost Face Gangsters’ drug trafficking operation.

The U.S. District Judge R. Stan Baker imposed the sentence, with Cushman also facing supervised release for three years following his牢狱生涯 and a five-year period during which he will be denied federal benefits. Parole is non-existent in the federal system.

Indicted alongside 42 other defendants in November 2018 under Operation Vanilla Gorilla, an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation, Cushman quickly pleaded guilty after being charged. The operation targeted a drug trafficking organization closely associated with the Ghost Face Gangsters, a violent street gang known for its criminal activities.

Despite his tattooed ‘G’ and skull symbolizing gang membership, Cushman denied affiliation with the Ghost Face Gangsters but confessed to associating with conspirators who distributed crystal meth throughout southern Georgia. His criminal history dates back two decades, including state convictions for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and drug sales.

U.S. Attorney Bobby L. Christine commented on Cushman’s case, noting, “Me being in prison may be the best thing that has happened to me,” reflecting the sentiment that methamphetamine addiction and its destruction can lead individuals down a destructive path. The ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Beau Kolodka, emphasized the commitment of federal resources to eradicating criminal gang activity.

Operation Vanilla Gorilla was a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the ATF, DEA, GBI, local police departments, and sheriff’s offices. Assistant United States Attorneys E. Greg Gilluly, Jr., and Frank Pennington prosecuted the case.
