Kyle Tetreault, 24, of Vergennes, Vermont, has been sentenced to 38 months in prison for being a felon in possession of firearms. Tetreault was also sentenced to 3 years of supervised release following his release from prison.

According to court records, Tetreault committed a string of residential burglaries in Vermont during which he stole firearms and other items. He then traded some of the stolen firearms to an out-of-state drug dealer in exchange for heroin.

Tetreault had previously been convicted in Vermont state court of a felony offense punishable by more than one year in prison, rendering him ineligible to possess firearms. This reckless disregard for the law ultimately led to his downfall.

The investigation into Tetreault’s crimes was a joint effort between the Vermont State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). The agencies’ hard work and dedication to justice are to be commended.

Tetreault was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 20, 2014, and subsequently pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm on August 18, 2014. He has been detained in prison since November 17, 2014.

Assistant United States Attorney Nancy J. Creswell led the prosecution of Tetreault’s case, while Attorney Michael Desautels of the Office of the Federal Public Defender represented the defendant.

The Acting United States Attorney for the District of Vermont, Eugenia A. P. Cowles, acknowledges the tireless efforts of all parties involved in bringing Tetreault to justice.

Tetreault’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in gun-related crimes and the importance of adhering to the law.
