HARRISBURG — A 34-year-old man with a history of deportation is back in federal crosshairs, charged with illegally re-entering the United States. Victor Avalos-Trinidad stands accused of crossing back into the country after being formally removed in 2009, a move that has triggered a federal prosecution in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
The charge, returned by a federal grand jury on November 16, 2016, alleges Avalos-Trinidad violated U.S. immigration law by re-entering the country at an unknown point after his 2009 deportation. Though details of how and when he re-entered remain under investigation, the offense carries a maximum penalty of two years behind bars, a fine, and a term of supervised release.
Homeland Security Investigations led the probe, tracking Avalos-Trinidad’s movements and immigration history. The case has been handed to Assistant United States Attorney Carlo D. Marchioli, who will prosecute under the authority of U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler.
