Victor Ebai, Felony Hit and Run, Arlington VA, 2018
ARLINGTON, VA – A reckless driver led authorities on a harrowing chase Sunday morning, culminating in a violent head-on collision on I-66 near mile marker 73. Victor Ebai, 28, of Springfield, VA, is now facing felony charges after a U.S. Secret Service officer witnessed him driving the wrong way on Washington D.C. streets before barreling onto the interstate.
The incident began around 4:35 am when a U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division Officer spotted a red Chevrolet Sonic traveling against the flow of traffic on I Street NW, then onto K Street NW. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, Ebai allegedly floored it, continuing westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-66. Recognizing the extreme danger to the public, the officer terminated the pursuit but maintained visual contact.
That’s when the unthinkable happened. Ebai’s Sonic slammed head-on into another vehicle, driven by a federal employee en route to work in Washington D.C. Authorities are intentionally withholding the victim’s identity at this time. The impact was significant, and the victim’s condition remains undisclosed. The Arlington County Police Department (ACPD) is leading the accident investigation, and has secured warrants for Ebai’s arrest on charges of Felony Hit and Run and Felony Eluding.
The Secret Service, while not the lead investigating agency, is providing full support to the ACPD. Initial reports from the Secret Service indicated a passenger in Ebai’s vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was taken into custody, and transported to a local hospital. However, the agency clarified that the passenger was *not* charged or arrested in connection with the incident.
This incident raises questions about the circumstances that led to Ebai’s erratic driving and the potential for a greater tragedy. The reckless disregard for public safety displayed during the chase is particularly troubling. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it moves through the legal system.
The investigation remains active, and anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Arlington County Police Department. Ebai remains at large as of this report, and is considered a danger to the public until apprehended. The full extent of the victim’s injuries has not been released, but sources indicate they were substantial.
