Kenny Don Stanley, Racketeering Murder, Texas 2013

BEAUMONT, Texas – A chilling chapter in the ongoing saga of organized crime in Texas concluded today as Kenny Don Stanley, a 32-year-old Vidor native, was sentenced to life in federal prison for his role in a racketeering murder. The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the sentence, which comes after Stanley’s guilty plea on June 25, 2013.

Stanley, along with Tanner Lynn Bourque (33), Kristopher Leigh Guidry (28), and Vicki Stark-Fitts (49), were involved in the March 14, 2011, murder of James Lee Sedtal, also known as “Lil Bit.” The shooting took place in Liberty County, Texas, and was a brutal act committed to maintain their position within the SWS criminal enterprise.

The Southern White Separatists (SWS), an organization that has been operating since the 1990s, sought to expand its power through illegal activities such as methamphetamine trafficking. According to court documents, the group was producing and distributing “shake and bake” methamphetamine in Orange County, Texas, before associating with Stark-Fitts, who provided them with crystal methamphetamine and firearms.

The murder of Sedtal was in retaliation for an attack on an Aryan Brotherhood of Texas associate. The SWS members were seeking to avoid ABT’s planned revenge. Guidry, Bourque, and Stark-Fitts have also pleaded guilty to their roles, with Guidry receiving a life sentence and Bourque facing a similar fate. Stark-Fitts awaits sentencing.

This case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Time Machine Initiative, aimed at reducing gun violence and gang activity in the Eastern District of Texas. The investigation was a collaborative effort between numerous federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including the ATF, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, DEA, and various county sheriff’s offices.

The grim case serves as a stark reminder of the violent underbelly of organized crime in Texas and the ongoing efforts to combat it.
