A convicted sex offender has been sentenced to 2 years in federal prison for failing to register in Iowa, according to a recent sentencing hearing.
Vincent Mack, 57, of Byron, Georgia, received the prison term after a guilty plea on May 25, 2022 to failing to register as a sex offender.
Mack was required to register as a sex offender due to a previous conviction of child molestation in Georgia in 2021.
According to the information from the sentencing hearing, Mack cut off his GPS ankle monitor and moved to Iowa with a friend in December 2021 while still under supervision for the conviction.
Law enforcement officers became aware of Mack approximately three weeks later and determined that he was living and working in Iowa without registering as a sex offender as he was required to do.
Mack was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge C.J. Williams. The sentence includes 24 months’ imprisonment and a five-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
Mack is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt and investigated by the United States Marshal’s Service and the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office.
