Nicholas James Sorgenfrey, Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material, Florida 2023

MIAMI – A chilling sentence was imposed today on Nicholas James Sorgenfrey, a 38-year-old resident of Port St. Lucie, Fla., who has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for possession of child sexual abuse material.

Sorgenfrey, who had previous convictions for sex offenses, was caught with explicit content depicting prepubescent minors on his cell phone and cloud storage account. The disturbing revelations came after a thorough investigation by the FBI Miami and Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

According to court documents, Sorgenfrey admitted to using social media apps to amass the illegal material. His residence was searched, and authorities discovered several videos depicting preteen children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The sentence was announced by U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon, who sits in Ft. Pierce, Fla., following a successful prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Hudock.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), a nationwide effort led by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. PSC brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children online.
