A Puerto Rican kingpin has pleaded guilty to running a massive cocaine trafficking empire that flooded the US mainland and Puerto Rico with millions of dollars’ worth of the deadly drug.

José Julio Rodríguez-Cumba, a.k.a. ‘Chambi’, admitted to directing a large-scale organization that imported and distributed over 2,000 kilograms of cocaine from South America into the US and Puerto Rico between 2011 and 2024.

The cocaine trafficking operation, which utilized land and sea transportation assets, made Rodríguez-Cumba millions of dollars in profit. He also admitted to using violence and firearms to protect the operation and its members.

But Rodríguez-Cumba’s reign of terror didn’t end there. While in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Guaynabo, he orchestrated a scheme to introduce buprenorphine into the facility.

The 62-foot luxury yacht ‘El Ancla’ and other assets, including cash, real property, and personal property, are set to be forfeited as part of the plea agreement.
