A notorious cocaine trafficker from Colombia has been brought to justice in Puerto Rico, accused of smuggling the deadly drug into the US for years. Nixon Manuel Marino-Carreño was extradited from Colombia on April 17, 2026, after being arrested on March 10, 2025, at the request of US authorities.
According to court documents, Marino-Carreño, 40, is accused of conspiring with others to import and attempt to import cocaine from Venezuela and Colombia into the US, starting in May 2024. He’s also charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine on a vessel subject to US jurisdiction.
The Homeland Security Task Force, a whole-of-government partnership aimed at taking down transnational crime rings, led the investigation. The FBI and DEA are in charge of the probe, with Assistant US Attorney Camille García handling the prosecution.
Marino-Carreño faces a whopping 10 years to life in prison if convicted, with a federal judge determining the sentence after considering US Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
