Virginia Man Gets 10 Years for Child Pornography
A 34-year-old Virginia Beach man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a child pornography ring. Brandon Matthew Florin was found to have shared thousands of videos of child pornography on a peer-to-peer network.
According to court documents, Florin was first identified by the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia Beach Police Department. A search warrant was executed at Florin’s residence, where law enforcement found over 5,000 videos of child pornography and child erotica.
Florin pleaded guilty to the charges on September 20, 2016. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to protect children from exploitation and abuse.
Project Safe Childhood is a collaborative effort between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute individuals who exploit children. The initiative has resulted in the rescue of hundreds of victims and the prosecution of thousands of offenders.
“This sentence is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protecting our children from exploitation,” said Dana J. Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. “We will continue to work tirelessly to bring those who perpetuate this heinous crime to justice.”
Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth M. Yusi prosecuted the case. The investigation was led by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Washington and the Virginia Beach Police Department.
The case highlights the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity. The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia Beach Police Department were instrumental in identifying Florin’s involvement in the child pornography ring.
Florin’s sentence serves as a warning to those who would engage in this type of activity. Child pornography is a serious crime that carries severe penalties. The Grimy Times urges anyone with information about child exploitation to come forward and report it to the authorities.
