TAMPA, FL – Gregory Allen Williamson, 59, of North Port, Florida, will spend the rest of his life in federal prison after being convicted of preying on a vulnerable child and producing horrific abuse material. U.S. District Judge William F. Jung delivered the life sentence following a jury trial that concluded March 13, 2024, finding Williamson guilty of enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity, and the production, distribution, and possession of child sexual abuse material.
The evidence presented at trial painted a sickening picture of calculated grooming. Williamson, operating under the alias “Vlad Vlad,” targeted a 12-year-old recent immigrant from Eastern Europe, isolating her and subjecting her to a campaign of sexually explicit communication. Investigators found the defendant sent the victim anonymous, graphic emails containing disturbing content, laying the groundwork for his predatory scheme.
The depravity escalated when Williamson gifted the victim seemingly innocuous cellphone chargers. These chargers, however, concealed hidden cameras, allowing him to surreptitiously record the child while she was undressed in her own bedroom. The resulting images and videos constituted the core of the child sexual abuse material he then possessed and distributed. Law enforcement recovered one of the modified chargers as evidence.
“Life in prison will keep this depraved individual from hurting another child,” stated FBI Tampa Acting Special Agent in Charge Rodney Crawford. “Our special agents, task force officers, and analysts work these investigations with compassion and dogged determination to ensure the innocent are protected from predators.” The investigation, led by the FBI Tampa Division – Sarasota Resident Agency and the North Port Police Department, with assistance from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, underscores the relentless pursuit of those who exploit children.
Assistant United States Attorneys Erin Claire Favorit and Lindsey Schmidt successfully prosecuted the case, securing a sentence that reflects the severity of Williamson’s crimes. This conviction is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project pools federal, state, and local resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute offenders and rescue victims.
