Wable Indicted on Firearms Charges

A 61-year-old man from Shinnston, West Virginia, has been indicted on serious charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and witness tampering.

Charles Raymond Wable is accused of possessing a semi-automatic rifle in September 2020 in Harrison County, despite being prohibited from doing so due to prior drug convictions.

Wable, who faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 for the firearms charge, is also accused of paying a witness to influence the witness’s testimony in a federal case between October 1, 2020, and November 10, 2020, in Harrison County.

The witness tampering charge carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. According to the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon S. Flower is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The ATF and the U.S. Probation Office investigated the matter.

It is worth noting that an indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Wable’s case is a reminder of the importance of upholding the law and ensuring public safety. As a community, we must remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat crime.
