Camden Man Sentenced to 115 Months in Prison for Conspiring to Distribute Heroin and Crack Cocaine
CAMDEN, N.J. – Waldemar Garcia, 36, of Camden, New Jersey, was sentenced to 115 months in prison for conspiring to distribute heroin and crack cocaine in the City of Camden.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, Garcia was one of 19 defendants arrested in late 2018 for drug-trafficking charges based on the FBI’s investigation of a drug-trafficking organization that ran the open-air narcotics trade on the 400-500 block of Pine Street in Camden for several months in 2018.
Garcia, a street-level seller, worked various shifts selling drugs to customers and collecting drug proceeds. Seventeen defendants have now pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Renee Marie Bumb to drug conspiracy charges. Two defendants are awaiting trial.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Bumb sentenced Garcia to five years of supervised release. The prison term will begin immediately.
U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger credited the special agents of the FBI’s South Jersey Violent Offender and Gang Task Force, South Jersey Resident Agency, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Jacqueline Maguire, as well as other law enforcement agencies, for their assistance in the investigation.
Garcia’s exact crime and charges were conspiracy to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin as well as quantities of crack cocaine.
This case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sara Aliabadi and Patrick C. Askin of the U. S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Camden.
