Waterbury, CT – D’METRIUS JOHNSON, 29, has been charged with illegal possession of firearms and drugs following a raid on his residence. The federal grand jury in Bridgeport indicted Johnson for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.
Johnson, also known as ‘Meech,’ is no stranger to the legal system. On November 12, 2014, he was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for his role in a narcotics trafficking conspiracy. He was released in January 2018 but was rearrested on state charges in November 2022.
Detectives found a Ruger 57 semiautomatic pistol, a Glock 31, a Ruger LCP handgun, ammunition, and nearly 90 grams of cocaine during the search. Johnson is now facing up to 35 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
U.S. Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery reminded readers that an indictment does not equate to guilt, emphasizing the defendant’s right to a fair trial. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a federal initiative aimed at reducing gun violence and violent crime.
The investigation was led by the ATF and Waterbury Police Department with assistance from Brookfield Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rahul Kale will handle the prosecution.
