Waterloo Man Sentenced for Possession of Child Pornography
A 68-year-old man from Waterloo, New York, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for possessing child pornography. Ronald Beaton, 68, was convicted of the crime and sentenced to 10 years of supervised release following his prison term.
The investigation, which was conducted by Special Agents with Homeland Security Investigations, began when a user of an Internet Protocol address was sharing child pornography files using file-sharing software. The Internet Protocol address was assigned to Beaton’s residence on West Main Street in Waterloo.
A search warrant was executed at Beaton’s residence, and agents found video files depicting child pornography on his computer. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee handled the case and stated that the investigation was a result of an undercover operation conducted by Special Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge, James C. Spero.
The plea is the culmination of a thorough investigation, and it serves as a reminder that those who exploit children online will be held accountable for their actions. Beaton’s sentence is a result of his conviction and the severity of the crime.
Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
The case is a significant blow to those who engage in child exploitation, and it is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies to protecting children from online predators.
