Gun Crime Rocks Watertown

Corey Daniels, a 35-year-old resident of Watertown, New York, was sentenced to 92 months in prison, or seven years and eight months, after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The crime was committed while Daniels was serving a four-and-a-half-year sentence on a 2016 drug trafficking conviction.

According to the indictment, Daniels admitted to possessing a stolen 40-caliber, semiautomatic pistol. The gun was seized in connection with his guilty plea. Daniels’s sentence will commence only after he completes his existing prison term for the drug trafficking conviction.

Daniels’s co-defendant, Loren Woodard, 35, of Calcium, New York, received an 84-month prison sentence in October 2016 for his role in firearms trafficking.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the New York State Police, and the City of Watertown Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicolas Commandeur led the prosecution.

The sentence comes as a warning to those who commit gun crimes while serving prison time for other offenses. ‘This case serves as a reminder that violating federal firearms laws comes with serious consequences,’ said U.S. Attorney Richard S. Hartunian.

The three-year supervised release term will commence after Daniels is released from federal prison. The sentence is a result of a thorough investigation, and the guilty plea was a significant step in bringing the defendant to justice.

The public is advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
