Benjamin Brown, 47, from Waterville, Maine, has pleaded guilty to making threatening interstate communications in U.S. District Court in Bangor.
Court records reveal that on February 8, 2024, Brown posted comments on YouTube, vowing to hunt down and kill illegal immigrants. In his chilling remarks, he claimed no one could stop him, not even law enforcement.
Brown had been previously warned about his online behavior by federal agents on two occasions. Despite these warnings, he continued to make threats, even daring law enforcement to intervene.
“You can’t threaten to kill people like Benjamin Brown did and not face repercussions,” said Ted E. Docks, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Division. “Protecting human life is our absolute priority.”
Acting U.S. Attorney Craig M. Wolff emphasized the seriousness of online threats: “Online threats are no less serious than those made in other ways, and those who make them will be investigated and prosecuted.”
Brown faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. His sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.
The FBI and the U.S. Secret Service, with assistance from the Waterville Police Department, investigated the case.
