BANGOR, Maine — Benjamin Brown, a 47-year-old Waterville resident, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for making threatening interstate communications. On February 8, 2024, Brown posted comments on YouTube, declaring his intent to hunt down and kill illegal immigrants, asserting that even law enforcement could not stop him.
Despite prior warnings from federal agents regarding the federal crime of interstate threats, Brown continued his ominous online behavior. Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Division, Ted E. Docks, emphasized the severity of such threats: “You can’t threaten to kill people like Benjamin Brown did and not face repercussions. Protecting human life is our absolute priority.”
Acting U.S. Attorney Craig M. Wolff echoed this sentiment, stating that online threats are treated with the same gravity as other forms of threats. “Despite being repeatedly warned, Benjamin Brown dared law enforcement to stop him,” Wolff said.
Brown now faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. His sentence will be determined after completion of a presentence investigative report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The FBI and the U.S. Secret Service investigated the case with assistance from the Waterville Police Department, ensuring that justice is served for those targeted by Brown’s chilling comments.
