West Haven Man Charged with Narcotics and Ammunition Offenses
A West Haven man has been charged with narcotics and ammunition offenses after a federal grand jury in Hartford returned an indictment against him.
Chaz Reddick, 38, was arrested by West Haven Police on April 20, 2021, after a court-authorized search of his apartment revealed a distribution quantity of crack cocaine and multiple rounds of ammunition.
According to the indictment, Reddick is facing charges of possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base (“crack”), which carries a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of five years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 40 years.
Additionally, Reddick is charged with possession of ammunition by a felon, which carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years. Reddick’s criminal history includes state felony convictions for firearm, drug and larceny offenses.
It is a violation of federal law for someone previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce. Reddick is being held without bail.
Acting U.S. Attorney Leonard C. Boyle stressed that an indictment is not evidence of guilt. Charges are only allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s New Haven Safe Streets/Gang Task Force and the West Haven Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Conor M. Reardon.
This matter is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
The indictment was returned on August 3 and Reddick appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert A. Richardson in Hartford and entered a plea of not guilty. He has been detained since his arrest on related state charges on April 20, 2021.
