West Virginia Man Sentenced for Oxycodone Distribution

Charleston, W.Va. – Jason Edward Hallam, a 33-year-old man from West Hamlin, West Virginia, was sentenced for distributing oxycodone. According to court documents, Hallam admitted to selling 10 oxycodone 30 mg pills for $400.00 to an individual inside his West Hamlin home on February 8, 2013.

The individual who purchased the pills was a confidential informant working with law enforcement, unaware of the transaction. Hallam faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment when he is sentenced on August 26, 2014, by United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr.

The case was investigated by the Huntington Drug Task Force and the West Virginia State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Monica D. Coleman is handling the prosecution.

This case is part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District.

Jason Hallam’s guilty plea highlights the ongoing struggle against prescription drug abuse in West Virginia. The state has been at the forefront of the opioid crisis, with many residents struggling with addiction and overdose.

As the U.S. Attorney’s Office continues to crack down on prescription drug trafficking, residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

With the sentencing of Jason Hallam, the community hopes to see a decrease in the distribution of illicit prescription drugs and a reduction in the devastating effects of opioid abuse.
