Denver – In a shocking turn of events, Sharee Ewudzi-Acquah, 47, from Westminster, Colorado, was ordered held without bond by U.S. Magistrate Judge Kristen L. Mix following her arrest and arraignment for the distribution and possession of child pornography.
Ewudzi-Acquah was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 18, 2016, and arrested by the FBI two days later. The indictment alleges that between September 8, 2015, and March 13, 2016, she knowingly distributed child pornography online, including via computer.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Valeria Spencer argued during the detention hearing that Ewudzi-Acquah was a threat to the community. Evidence presented suggests that she traded child pornography with multiple users using an anonymous app and engaged in graphic sex chats while at work at the University of Colorado.
The investigation revealed that Ewudzi-Acquah used cloud storage, foreign emails, and servers in New Zealand and Russia to store and share child pornographic material. She faces severe penalties if convicted, including up to 20 years in federal prison for distribution and up to 10 years for possession.
This case is a stark reminder of the reach of cybercrime and the impact on vulnerable children. The FBI and Assistant U.S. Attorney Spencer are leading the prosecution of this serious offense.
As with all criminal charges, Ewudzi-Acquah is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
