MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – In a grim display of justice, Matthew Kyle Pinson, 37, from Wewoka, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 108 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and federal firearm charges. The sentence includes concurrent sentences for involuntary manslaughter and Felon in Possession of a Firearm, totaling 51 months each, and a consecutive sentence of 57 months for the assault charge.
The heinous acts that led to Pinson’s conviction were investigated by a coalition of law enforcement agencies including the FBI, ATF, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the Seminole Nation Lighthorse Police Department. The charges stem from events on January 16, 2022, when Pinson physically assaulted an individual, leaving them with severe facial injuries requiring surgery. Just three days later, on January 19, 2022, Pinson, a convicted felon, discharged a firearm, taking the life of a second individual.
These crimes shocked Seminole County and took place within the boundaries of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma Reservation in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. On July 25, 2023, Pinson pleaded guilty to all charges. The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the sentencing hearing.
Pinson will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal until transported to a federal prison facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Erin Cornell represented the United States in this case.
