WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – A grim tale of drug trafficking has unfolded in Wheeling as Chad Markle, 31, admitted to distributing methamphetamine across Marshall and Ohio Counties from July 2018 to February 2019. United States Attorney Bill Powell was the one to break the news.
Markle’s guilty plea came on one count of “Conspiracy to Distribute and to Possess with the Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine,” a charge that carries serious consequences. The court heard Markle’s role in the drug trade, which spanned several months, leaving a trail of addiction and despair.
According to the government, Markle’s house at 36 Fernwood Avenue in Wheeling is also in the crosshairs as officials seek its forfeiture. This residence has become synonymous with the Markle’s criminal enterprise, a place where the drug trade thrived.
The sentence facing Markle could be severe, up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $1,000,000. The severity of his sentence will depend on the seriousness of his offenses and any prior criminal history he may have.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert H. McWilliams, Jr., is handling the prosecution for the government. The investigation was conducted by the Marshall County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative that works tirelessly to combat drug trafficking in the region. U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided over the hearing.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against methamphetamine distribution and the communities it devastates. Markle’s admission is just one step in the long journey towards justice for those affected by this dangerous drug.
