A notorious meth trafficker has been brought to justice in northeastern Pennsylvania. Emile Occean, 38, of Wilkes-Barre, was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for distributing the deadly drug.
A federal judge in Scranton handed down the sentence to Occean, who was convicted of distributing methamphetamine in Luzerne County on March 31, 2022, and April 12, 2022.
Occean’s rap sheet is long and bloody. He had two prior drug distribution convictions, two robbery convictions, and a burglary conviction. As a result, he was deemed a career offender for sentencing purposes.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts prosecuted the case.
Occean’s sentencing is a major blow to the meth trade in Wilkes-Barre and surrounding areas. The city has struggled with a growing opioid crisis, and methamphetamine has become a major player in the problem.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. The initiative brings together law enforcement and community leaders to foster trust and legitimacy in neighborhoods.
U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam praised the work of law enforcement in bringing Occean to justice. ‘This sentence is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our law enforcement partners in the fight against methamphetamine trafficking,’ Karam said.
