Methamphetamine Trafficking Plagues Alabama Community
A federal grand jury has indicted William Edward Robinson (44) and Sandra Wright Taylor (53), for violations of federal law, including conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and possession of firearms in connection with drug distribution, among other charges.
The couple, who shared a residence in Greenville, Alabama, allegedly received their illegal drugs through the mail for distribution locally. Upon searching their residence, numerous firearms were found, including an illegal machinegun.
Robinson has previous felony convictions, which, under federal law, prohibit him from possessing a firearm. The indictment alleges that Taylor and Robinson maintained a drug-involved premise, and Taylor is also charged with the illegal possession of a machinegun.
An indictment merely alleges that crimes have been committed. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. If convicted of the charges, the couple faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The case was investigated by the Second Judicial Drug Task Force, the United States Postal Inspection Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the United States Secret Service, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, the Greenville Police Department, the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery Police Department, and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
Assistant United States Attorney Susan R. Redmond is prosecuting the case. The investigation and subsequent indictment demonstrate the ongoing efforts to combat methamphetamine trafficking and possession of firearms in connection with drug distribution in Alabama.
As the nation continues to grapple with the opioid epidemic and related crimes, the indictment of Robinson and Taylor serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by methamphetamine and the consequences of violating federal law.
