Bristol Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Meth and Firearms Convictions
In a federal court hearing, 38-year-old William Everett Himes was handed a 20-year prison sentence for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation and for being in possession of a firearm.
Himes pleaded guilty to one count of possessing with the intent to distribute 50 grams or more of crystal ice methamphetamine, as well as one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The charges stem from a January 2020 traffic stop in Washington County, Virginia, where Himes fled from police and was found to be in possession of the illicit substance and a loaded .45 caliber firearm.
According to court documents, Himes was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior felony convictions, including two 2012 convictions related to methamphetamine in Bristol, Virginia. The investigation into the case was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
United States Attorney Christopher R. Kavanaugh, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares, and Jarod Forget, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA’s Washington Division, made the announcement. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney M. Suzanne Kerney-Quillen, a Virginia Senior Assistant Attorney General assigned to the Attorney General’s Major Crimes and Emerging Threats Section.
In addition to his prison sentence, Himes’ involvement in the methamphetamine trafficking operation and his status as a convicted felon with a history of violent crime convictions have left many in the community concerned. His sentencing serves as a reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine and the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat its distribution.
As the investigation continues, it remains to be seen whether any further charges will be filed against Himes or other individuals involved in the operation. However, for now, the community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that one less methamphetamine trafficker is on the streets.
With this sentencing, law enforcement agencies in Virginia have taken a significant step in combating the scourge of methamphetamine in the region. As the Grimy Times continues to follow this story, we will provide updates on any further developments in the case.
