William G. Berger, Federal Prosecution, New York 2026

ALBANY, NEW YORK – A new face has joined the ranks of federal prosecutors in the Northern District of New York. Saratoga County Assistant District Attorney William G. Berger was sworn in as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York on February 3, 2026.

A SAUSA is able to prosecute cases in federal court under the supervision of the U.S. Attorney’s Office while remaining employed as an ADA. Berger is not the only one from Saratoga County to join the federal ranks. He is part of a group of ADAs from various counties in New York who were recently sworn in as SAUSAs.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone stated: “We are proud to welcome William Berger as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. His experience as an Assistant District Attorney in Saratoga County and his commitment to public safety will strengthen our efforts to combat violent crime and complex criminal organizations throughout the Northern District of New York. Partnerships like this exemplify the strong collaboration between state and federal law enforcement, ensuring that we use every available resource to protect our communities and uphold the rule of law.”

Other ADAs recently sworn in as SAUSAs include First ADA Michael T. Johnson (Herkimer County); Chief ADA J. Sam Rodgers (Madison County); ADAs Manpreet Kaur and Kathleen Hofmann (Montgomery County); and Chief ADA Christopher Bednarski and Senior ADAs Sara Fitzpatrick and Alphonse L. Williams III (Onondaga County).

SAUSAs play a vital role in the fight against complex crimes and bring valuable experience and expertise to the table. By partnering with state and local law enforcement agencies, the U.S. Attorney’s Office can better serve the communities of the Northern District of New York.
