William Heck, Drug Trafficking and Firearms Offenses, Pennsylvania 2021

SCRANTON – A Luzerne County man has been indicted for his alleged role in a string of drug trafficking and firearms offenses. William Heck, 40, of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, was indicted on April 6, 2021, by a federal grand jury for drug trafficking and firearms offenses.

Charges: Heck is accused of possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and possessing more than 40 grams of methamphetamine and an additional amount of fentanyl for distribution in Luzerne County.

Investigation: The case was investigated by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Pennsylvania State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Robert J. O’Hara is prosecuting the case.

Project Safe Neighborhoods: This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that has been historically successful in bringing together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Indictment: Indictments and Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.

Sentence: If convicted, Heck faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison for the drug trafficking charge, up to a maximum sentence of life in prison, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. For the firearms charges, Heck faces an additional mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison, which must run consecutive to any other sentence, a maximum sentence of life, a term of supervised release and a fine.

Next Steps: The case is ongoing, and Heck is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
