A Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to making a false statement during the acquisition of a firearm in Plaistow, New Hampshire, according to court documents.
William Heredia, 36, of Haverhill, Massachusetts, was charged with one count of making a false statement during the acquisition of a firearm.
In November 2018, Heredia purchased a Smith & Wesson rifle from a federal firearms licensee in Plaistow. On the ATF Form 4473, Heredia stated that he was the actual transferee of the firearm, but in reality, he was buying it for someone else.
The individual he was buying the gun for had previously been in juvenile detention, and Heredia had met them during that time. The individual accompanied Heredia to the firearms store, and he transferred the gun to them the same day.
Heredia is scheduled to be sentenced on June 20, 2023. The matter was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anna Krasinski and Aaron Gingrande.
Heredia’s actions are a reminder of the importance of honesty when purchasing firearms. Making false statements can have serious consequences, including fines and imprisonment.
The plea agreement marks a significant development in the case, and it is expected to have a lasting impact on the community. As the investigation and prosecution continue, it is clear that those who break the law will be held accountable.
