Arron W. Dupler, Illegal Firearm Possession and Sale, Wisconsin 2024

DARIEN, WI – Arron W. Dupler, 34, of Darien, Wisconsin, is headed to federal prison after being sentenced to two years for illegally possessing and selling a firearm. U.S. District Judge William M. Conley delivered the sentence today, adding to existing state sentences Dupler was already serving.

The case began to unravel when law enforcement caught wind of Dupler flaunting firearms on Facebook, openly offering them for sale. An undercover officer with the Janesville Police Department quickly engaged with Dupler, ultimately purchasing a Ruger LCP .380 handgun on March 4, 2022. During the transaction, Dupler bragged about his inventory, showing off photos of previously sold weapons and promising he could acquire more.

But Dupler wasn’t just a casual seller. He was a convicted felon – twice. Records show prior felony convictions in 2007 and 2018, making firearm possession illegal. He apparently didn’t care. What’s more disturbing, according to Judge Conley, was Dupler’s chilling remark to the undercover officer about the handgun having “no bodies” associated with it, and that only five rounds had been fired. This indicated a deliberate attempt to obscure the weapon’s history, making it harder to trace if it ended up at a crime scene.

“These attributes would make the gun harder to trace, should it be used in criminal activity,” Judge Conley stated during sentencing, highlighting the potential danger of Dupler’s actions. The judge clearly saw beyond a simple gun sale – it was a reckless disregard for public safety and a clear willingness to arm potentially dangerous individuals with untraceable weapons.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) spearheaded the investigation, working in close coordination with the Janesville Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Anita Marie Boor and Megan Stelljes secured the conviction and argued for a substantial sentence.

Dupler’s two-year federal sentence will run consecutive to the undischarged sentences he’s already serving from his state convictions, meaning he’ll be spending a significant amount of time behind bars. This case serves as a stark reminder that illegally trafficking firearms carries serious consequences, especially for those already prohibited from owning them. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the fallout.
