Fayetteville Man Sentenced to Over 7 Years in Federal Prison for Child Pornography
Fayetteville, Arkansas – David Clay Fowlkes, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, announced that William Lee Murray, age 49, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, was sentenced today to 87 months in federal prison followed by 15 years of supervised release on one count of Receipt of Child Pornography.
The Honorable Timothy L. Brooks presided over the sentencing hearing in the United States District Court in Fayetteville.
According to court records, in April 2019 the Northwest Arkansas Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in reference to suspected child pornography being uploaded to a Google account.
Further investigation revealed that the IP address associated with the Google account was assigned to Murray’s residence and that the account containing the child pornography belonged to Murray.
Murray was indicted in January of 2020 and plead guilty to an Information in October of 2020.
This case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Northwest Arkansas Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
Assistant United States Attorneys Carly Marshall and Amy Driver prosecuted the case for the United States.
This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
According to the press release, Murray will serve 87 months in federal prison followed by 15 years of supervised release for Receipt of Child Pornography.
