Deandre Martece Williams, Armed Robberies and Rapes, Michigan 2024

DETROIT – In a ruling that sent shockwaves through the Motor City, Deandre Martece Williams was today sentenced to 327 months in prison for a harrowing spree of armed robberies, non-fatal shootings, and rapes. United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. announced the sentence, which came as a result of charges including felon in possession of a firearm and kidnapping.

United States District Judge Mark A. Goldsmith minced no words, describing Williams’s ‘utter disregard for human dignity’ as breathtakingly heinous, using the term ‘nightmarish’ to describe his conduct. During a three-month stretch in 2023, Williams targeted fifteen individuals, seriously injuring four and raping three at gunpoint.

Joining Gorgon in the announcement were James Deir of the ATF, Detroit Police Department’s Chief Todd Bettison, and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. The case was a testament to the collaboration between these agencies, with the ATF and DPD working tirelessly to piece together evidence from multiple crime scenes.

Detroit police collected fired cartridge casings that were matched using the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN). This led them to Williams as a suspect. On October 20, 2023, ATF agents executed a federal search warrant at Williams’s residence, where they arrested him and recovered the firearm used in the robberies.

Williams operated with a chilling methodology: approaching his victims in parked cars, robbing them at gunpoint, and sometimes shooting at them as they tried to flee. His cruelty didn’t end there; he also raped two of his victims during these heinous acts. The ATF and DPD’s investigation unearthed additional evidence linking Williams to a rape and adult kidnapping from 2012.

Williams’s arrest for the robberies also tied him to an unsolved Criminal Sexual Conduct case from 2012, which he pleaded guilty to in March. This sentence, alongside his current one, ensures that justice has been served for all his victims. U.S. Attorney Gorgon echoed the sentiments of many when he said, ‘This sinister man did plenty of both [robbery and cruelty], but through ingenuity and hard work, our city is now safer.’ Special Agent in Charge James Deir emphasized the partnership between ATF and law enforcement that led to Williams’s conviction, noting that such collaborations are key to reducing gun violence.
