GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Alicia Loraine Robinson, a 36-year-old resident of Sioux City, Iowa, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for illegal possession of firearms and drug trafficking. On February 2, 2023, Robinson stood before United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand to face the consequences of her actions.
Robinson’s criminal journey began with a traffic stop on December 30, 2021, in Sioux City. Law enforcement detected the scent of marijuana and observed Robinson clutching her purse tightly. A subsequent search revealed drug paraphernalia, a .380 firearm, and over 50 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and distribution-related items in her home.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a Glock .40 handgun owned by Robinson during a July 6, 2021, search warrant at another location associated with drug distribution. Robinson confessed to possessing both firearms and using controlled substances, which is a violation of federal law prohibiting firearm possession for those who use such substances.
Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood prosecuted the case, while the Tri-State Drug Task Force, a coalition of law enforcement agencies, investigated it. The sentence includes 62 months’ imprisonment followed by a four-year term of supervised release. Parole is not an option in the federal system.
