PENSACOLA, FL – Willie Frank Gordon, 41, of Pensacola, is facing a lengthy federal prison sentence after a jury found him guilty of drug trafficking and multiple firearms offenses. Gordon, a man with a lengthy criminal history, was caught red-handed with a cocktail of illegal substances and a loaded pistol during a routine traffic stop.
The bust went down March 15, 2022, when Gordon was pulled over for driving without a license. A search of his vehicle revealed a black backpack stuffed with approximately 200 grams of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl. Alongside the drugs, officers discovered associated paraphernalia and a loaded pistol. A firearm holster was found in the glove box, along with three cell phones and over $2,000 in cash on Gordon’s person. Initially, Gordon denied any knowledge of the contraband.
But the evidence quickly mounted against him. Investigators uncovered surveillance footage showing Gordon carrying the same black backpack to the vehicle just thirty minutes before the traffic stop. During a custodial interview, Gordon ultimately admitted to possessing the drugs and the firearm. This wasn’t Gordon’s first rodeo with the law; he has six prior state felony convictions and one federal felony conviction, including previous drug and firearms offenses.
Court testimony revealed a disturbing pattern of violence in Gordon’s past, with witnesses stating he had previously shot people. Law enforcement also had intelligence linking him to fentanyl overdoses in nearby Okaloosa County. Adding insult to injury, Gordon was already on federal supervised release for a prior federal conviction related to being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition when this latest crime occurred.
The case was a joint investigation by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Callahan skillfully prosecuted the case, securing the guilty verdict. Gordon is scheduled to be sentenced on February 14, 2024, before U.S. District Judge M. Casey Rodgers at the U.S. Courthouse in Pensacola.
He faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in federal prison, with the potential for a life sentence. This conviction is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime by focusing on the most dangerous offenders and fostering collaboration between law enforcement and community programs.
