Wilmer Chavez Romero, Racketeering and Murder in Aid of Racketeerin…

Newark, N.J. – In a stunning revelation, Wilmer Chavez Romero, also known as ‘Charmin’, was arraigned in federal court today on charges of racketeering and murder in aid of racketeering, among others. The 27-year-old New Brunswick native is accused of operating a vast network of illegal brothels across New Jersey that employed illegal aliens.

The indictment details how Romero allegedly served as an enforcer for an enterprise that promoted prostitution and facilitated the entry of illegal aliens into the United States. The enterprise expanded through intimidation, violence, and murder. Romero’s alleged role was to silence informants and exact revenge against those deemed disloyal.

According to the indictment, two people were murdered in connection with the enterprise. Romero faces life imprisonment if convicted on the racketeering and racketeering conspiracy counts. The assault with a dangerous weapon charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years, while the murder in aid of racketeering charge could result in death or life in prison.

The investigation leading to these charges was conducted by special agents of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Terence S. Opiola in Newark. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sharon Ashe and Meredith Williams are representing the government.

Romero’s defense is being handled by Kevin F. Carlucci, Esq., an assistant federal public defender based in Newark. The charges against Romero are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
