A Honduran man has pleaded guilty to using a false Social Security card to qualify for employment in Louisiana.
Wilson Mazariegos Saravia, 28, presented a counterfeit Social Security card when signing in for a pre-employment safety class in St. Rose, Louisiana, on December 14, 2022.
Saravia, a native of Honduras, faces a maximum term of imprisonment of not more than five (5) years followed by up to three (3) years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.00.
Saravia pleaded guilty on July 12, 2023, to a one-count bill of information charging him with violating Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B), which prohibits the misuse of a Social Security number.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of Homeland Security Investigations in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney M. Irene González of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
Sentencing for Saravia is scheduled for November 8, 2023.
