A local woman has been charged with a serious crime after allegedly assaulting a federal officer in McLaughlin, South Dakota. According to authorities, Rhonda Brown, 41, was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 17, 2013, for Assaulting, Resisting and Impeding a Federal Officer.

A federal grand jury is a group of citizens who hear evidence and decide whether a person should be charged with a crime. In this case, the grand jury found enough evidence to charge Brown with the crime. She was then brought before U.S. Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes on July 26, 2013, and entered a plea of not guilty to the indictment.
