Adjoni Jones, a/k/a Adjoni Archambault, a 33-year-old McLaughlin, South Dakota woman, has been accused of distributing a controlled substance to a person under the age of 21, among other charges. Jones was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 12, 2013, for her alleged involvement in the distribution of a controlled substance, as well as child abuse and neglect.
According to the indictment, Jones appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes on June 20, 2013, and pled not guilty to the charges. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 15 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both; at least 4 years of supervised release, an additional 2 years of supervised release upon revocation; and a mandatory $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The charges against Jones are merely accusations, and she is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation into her alleged activities is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich serving as the prosecuting attorney.
Jones was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following her indictment. A trial date has not been set, and the public will be kept informed as more information becomes available.
The indictment of Jones serves as a reminder of the severe consequences that can result from the distribution of controlled substances, particularly when it involves individuals under the age of 21. It also highlights the importance of protecting children from abuse and neglect.
As the investigation continues, it is essential to remember that Jones is innocent until proven guilty. However, the allegations against her are serious, and it is crucial to hold individuals accountable for their actions.
